Concurrent Experiential Workshop: University Health Network GROW Garden

Wednesday May 15   01:00 PM to 05:00 PM (4 hours)
GROW Garden, EW Bickle Centre for Complex Continuing Care, Toronto Rehab, University Health Network

Bus will depart from Evergreen Brick Works to the farm and will return to Evergreen Brick Works for Community Dinner. Please dress in comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

University Health Network’s Bickle Centre created the GROW “Garden Rehab on Wheels” in 2016. The raised bed design enables patients with a range of mobility, including those requiring wheelchair use, to fully participate. The garden has reported increased patient and employee satisfaction, contributing to patient therapy alongside staff wellness and team building. This workshop is co-hosted by Ed Rubenstein (University Health Network’s Director of Environmental Compliance, Risk and Sustainability) and Amanda Beales (Registered Dietitian and Inter-professional Educator, Bickle Centre). Anyone interested in patient therapy and engagement, staff wellness, or utilization of organizational land for urban agriculture should sign up for this workshop.

Experiential Workshops offer a way to see and experience aspects of the health and food system that are complex and not easily understood. One of the best ways to improve that understanding is to get out into the world and see new things through new eyes. This ‘seeing’ occurs as much through conversations with colleagues on the workshops as it does from the visits themselves
